[comp.windows.x] Pixmap Allocation problem on VAXstations

devin@eowyn.Colorado.EDU (Yampalimardilor) (02/16/91)

I'm trying to allocate a 1024x1024x1 Pixmap on a VAXstation 2000 or
VAXstation 3100. Neither machine allows this - they both crash my
program with a BadAlloc error. Does anyone know of any way to get
this allocation to work - I need this badly. I know that there's
enough memory on the machine to allow this - why won't it let me do
this? Thanks.

The X protocol does not place a minimum on the allowable pixmap size
and allows servers to generate Alloc errors for any reason. Many
servers with graphics accelerators use graphics memory for pixmaps,
often restricting them to the dimensions of the screen.
