Funny, I recall quite a few warnings about the traffic levels. I cannot say whether any were from Gene Spafford, but they were there. The suggestions for cutting down traffic were basially twofold: have fewer newsgroups, and use more moderated groups. These were not uncontested, but they were the only proposals made that I remember. (Incidentally, as I recall, the pending demise of net.bizarre *was* mentioned in net.bizarre. C'mon! In the last few months alone, I've received ( via usenet) information
on -references for my thesis; -directions on how to get to Toronto airport;
questions on how to solve unix/xenix problems; -sources for records and
obscure albums etc.
Sure usenet can be thought of a discussion forum, but remember, this is
a valuable source of information and help!
