xloadimage works just fine for this. If you don't have it, I'm sure there
are plenty of people on the net who can get you a copy.

"xgif" works nicely. Available from a ftp site near you.

Since I have xloadimage I haven't gone looking for the source. The
version which came with my Dell V.4 shows two side by side copies of the
image, each with aspect ratio off by a factor of two (two scrunched
images). It's faster than xloadimage, so if it works properly I'll grab
a copy. I assume it's on the usual sites.

xloadimage is a great program, I use it all the time. Another great
program to display gif images is xgif. The one feature that xgif has
that I could not find in xloadimage is the ability to resize the image
remarkabley well by resizing the window. xloadimage can resize images
by only by setting the window size of using fullscreen. Of course
xloadimage does panning if you have made the window smaller than the
image. Just thought I would mention an alternative and mention some
of the differences.

I like xv. It displays on any display <= 8 bits, allows for resizing image,
allows interactive gamma correction, and allows for image insertion into the
current image.

It can be ftp'd from expo.lcs.mit.edu (and probably others).

Apart from the xgif and xloadimage another gif-viewer exists.
It is called xv and is available on expo.lcs.mit.edu

It is the one I like best. It does a fairly good dithering and allows
you to apply a gamma correction to the picture.
