[comp.windows.x] X & real time

paulet@terre.matra-espace.fr (Pascal PAULET 6109 FAMI2) (02/22/91)

Hi xperts,

Does anybody know something about X and real-time; I mean ports of X (libs
and server) on top of real-time operating systems and extensions
to support real-time concepts in X (e.g. priority of windows)

Thank you.

Pascal.

I've been working on RealTimeX for a year and a half now. If you have access
to last year's Xhibition '90 proceedings, there a paper "The Application of
Real-Time Paradigms to the X Window System" that describes what RealTimeX
contains. There will also be a paper at Xhibition '91 (I haven't finalized
the title) that describes the current state of the project.

Briefly, RealTimeX supports prioritization of windows and clients, as well as
preemption, synchronization, and determinism support.
