[net.news] Policy notes, where are you?

jbn@wdl1.UUCP (11/14/85)

How does one find out who the moderators are in the "mod.*" groups?
No "policy notes" seem to be present, and some of the "digests" don't give
submission instructions.

----------
Gene Spafford regularly posts a list of moderators (in mod.newslists).
Notesfiles do not have builtin capability to handle moderated files,
but a package of modifications was posted to net.sources several
months ago to provide that support (so that responses in such files are
automatically mailed to the moderator). That code seems to work
as advertised. Perhaps Ray Essick will distribute it in the next
release of notes.

Policy notes are not networked, so even if the rest of Usenet had
them (which they don't, since the bulk of them don't run notes)
they wouldn't arrive at your site. I consider this a shortcoming
in notes, but Ray did it that way on purpose to protect the
autonomy of individual sites, which I consider to be a feature.
