I am getting ready to develop an engineering design optimization application in C++ and I am trying to decide on the tool or tools to use for the interface. Interfaces use to be easy before X as I could simply use CURSES. I am new to the X world but I am very confused about the tools to use for the interface. I have heard about OPEN LOOK, MOTIF, and INTERVIEWS (possibly many others exist that I am ignorant of). Each tool kit has a group of loyal suporters and followers. 1. How do I select the right tool kit? 2. If I select a tool kit how do I minimize my chance of error and make life easier to switch over to another one? 3. What are the advantages of each tool kit and which tool kit will win out? I realize that this last question is a possible religious one but I would appreciate hearing about the issues. 4. Which tool kits work well or have problems with C++? 5. Is there any easy way to support all of the tool kits with minimum work? I am sure that many other developers have faced this question in recent times and I would appreciate any comments, suggestions or references that will help me make the appropriate design decisions before investing a lot of time and effort. I was not sure which newgroup to post this to so I posted it to openlook, interviews, C++ and motif. Thanks Dave powell@crd.ge.com
