A recent rash of duplicate articles has hit mod.sources and mod.std.unix (and probably others that I don't read). They all come from BTY Inc., Rockaway, NJ. Who are they (they're not in the maps) and why and how are they doing this. They apparently connected through site infopro. Who are they (they're not in the maps) and I just recently ported the USENET software to my system, an Altos 586 running XENIX. During the process of debugging the inews program, I inadvertently dispatched some articles that had gotten stuck in my uucp directory. I had intended to post them only locally, and did not realize my error in time to correct it. In all, 80 (!) articles got re-posted. Of course, the Message-ID fields got changed, killing my hopes that the articles would by rejected by the history mechanism at receiving sites. I'm sorry to have caused you any inconvenience. I assure you that no more duplicated articles will be posted from this system in the future. Thanks for your patience and concern in this situation. Sincerely, Brian Yost topaz!infopro!bty!yost
