[comp.windows.x] Color map, xloadimage, and X386 1.1

I posted some time ago about xloadimage's not being able to use an alternate
color map under X386 1.1. Here's what I've found.

It seems that not all window managers switch color maps when the mouse cursor
is moved into or out of a window. If your window manager doesn't do this,
specify "-install" when using xloadimage.

With X386 1.1, and xloadimage 2.0 USING AN ALTERNATE COLOR MAP, I had to turn
my 4D's brightness way up when the mouse cursor was moved into the xloadimage
window; I previously mistakenly described this phenomenon as "the screen blacks
out . . . ." (If xloadimage used the global color map, then everything was
fine.) Such a problem doesn't exist when running xloadimage on a SPARC 1
and displaying the image on an HP 9000/370 X11R4 server.

I've been suspicious about "tfbInstallColormap," but I've not been able to
get X386 1.1 to compile on my ESIX, so I can't do any experiments yet.
