I heard a rumor that Twm stood for Tab Window Manager, but I always thought it stood for Tom's Window Manager. Can someone set the record straight? Please reply directly via email, as I am not on this list. Thanks. Jim Ault, RPI ITS Systems Programmer, ault@rpi.edu

It was renamed Tab Window Manager in R4 for several reasons: (1) I had rewritten enough of it that I didn't want Tom to get blamed for anything I had broken. (2) When Keith added tabs, it seemed a nice way to emphasize a nice new feature. Jim

The answer is right there in the README file (in the X11R4 clients/twm directory), which reads as follows: > To save Tom LaStrange from being blaimed for any of the massive numbers > of changes that have been done to twm since gave up control of it, the name > "twm" now stands for "Tab Window Manager" (try the SqueezeTitle option to > see why). ----- John B.
