[comp.windows.x] Tutorial for xmodmap, translation manager, and OW shelltool keyboard mapping sought

lwv27@LOCAL.UUCP (Larry W. Virden) (03/26/91)

I am very confused concerning the way to use xmodmap, the translation
manager and the ttyswrc files from OpenWindows to get my keyboard to
produce unique escape sequences.

Does anyone know of an introduction to the topic for a raw recruit? I
do not know what keycodes, keysyms, etc. are, how to find out what they
correspond to on the keyboard, how to figure out how to do what I need
to do, etc.

What my goal is is to get the F1-F15, R1-R15, Number Lock, Alt, Caps Lock,
and -,+, Enter, Del, and Ins keys to work in the same manner as they did
under SunView.

I am using a Sparc 1+ and SunOS 4.1.1 - OpenWindows 2.0 .

Thanks for all of the pointers.
