I have a Sun SS1 and am running X11R4 on it. I'd like to just use XDM all the time, but one thing I've noticed (and dislike intently) is that console messages will still show up on the console when XDM is waiting for a user login. After a user logs in, there is no problem as long as s/he is running one xterm with a -C or an xconsole. Has anyone come up with a standard or intelligent way of placing a small second window to handle console messages somewhere on the screen when XDM is waiting for login? Are there better ideas than doing even that? Paul -- .. here I am in 53 B.C. and all I want is a dill pickle!!

Greetings, all! We would like to run the X display manager but have a problem. A "feature" of a file system we use is that it displays adjustments it makes to time and other extraneous messages to /dev/console, even when noone is logged in, thus cluttering up the nice screen that xdm is supposed to greet you with. I would like to redirect this information to a file, preferably /dev/null. Has anyone out there hacked at xdm or have a program not needing an active terminal to deal with, which could do this for me. Any help would be appreciated!!! -- John C.
