[comp.windows.x] How to use an xbm for a new CURSOR?

scoob@vlsi.polymtl.ca (Scoob) (04/07/91)

	Hi Xperts...

Just a little question on how to use an xbm file to have a cute
	cursor.

I recently fetched a couple of bitmap files from a host at dec.com
(can't remember the name) and only two or tree of them had an
	associated mask file.

To use a bitmap file as a cursor, I tried
xsetroot -cursor <bitfile> <maskfile>. It works well for the files
with a maskfile but for the others, it won't work without the
	second argument (maskfile).

So I guess the question really is: How do I generate a mask file
	for those nice bitmaps?

Could anyone point me to an Xbitmap editor I could use to
	edit my own bitmap cursors.

Could I use a gif filtered to an xbitmap as a cursor?

How does the bitmap(1) program work. It says it takes an ascii
	file as an input ????

	Thanks for your time.
