[comp.windows.x] R5 enhancement request

nazgul@alphalpha.com (Kee Hinckley) (04/07/91)

I realize it's probably too late. But the repeated problems with
/usr/lib/X11/XKeysymDB made me think of it. It would be pretty trivial to
export an interface in Xlib that would allow a program to query to see what
keysyms are defined, and add more if they aren't already there. This would
provide Motif (and other apps) with a keysym fallback mechanism similar to
fallback resources. I think this would be pretty valuable. In fact, if
it would be accepted as an enhancement I'd even be happy to write the code.

I'm not sure which upsets me more: that people are so unwilling to accept
responsibility for their own actions, or that they are so eager to regulate
everyone else's.
