I am writing a simple routine for X that opens the display via XOpenDisplay. Does anybody know if xinit is required to run a routine like this ? My routine works after I have typed xinit at the UNIX prompt. Otherwise if I try to run the routine from the UNIX prompt I get a fatal XIO #77 error.
