We are having problems getting DECwrite V1.1 to display correctly on a SUN SPARCstation. The cursor always is 2 characters in *front* of where the text is actually being inserted... Very annoying! DECwrite works fine when being displayed on any DEC VAXstation or DECstation (VMS *or* ULTRIX). DECwrite *SHOULD* be a standard X application, but there is a known problem with DEC's implementation of X, whereby DEC chose not to use the standard fonts or font formats available to all other manufacturers. This has caused numerous X station users grief, because if the fonts aren't exactly right then many X applications won't work properly. There are places within DECwindows applications where there is not substitute for DEC's font. DECwrite likely falls into this category. The weird thing is that DECwrite V1.0 worked fine on the SPARCstation. Only after upgrading to DECwrite V1.1 did we start to have these problems. DEC did make many changes between V1.0 and V1.1 of DECwrite, but it is nearly impossible to determine which changes causes this problem on the SUN. On the SPARCstations, we are using a "font.alias" file which we obtained from somewhere on the net a long time ago (1+ year ago). I have also tried the FONT.ALIAS file shipped with VMS V5.4 in DECW$EXAMPLES, but this one turned out to be *identical* to the one obtained from the net. Can someone tell me where I can get a copy of the most recent "font.alias" file? Is an up-to-date copy maintained by someone? Perhaps having a new one will resolve this problem, although I'm not 100% sure that it is indeed a font problem. Any other suggestions or comments would be appreciated...
