Under SunOS 4.0.3, the following worked just fine on 3/60's with cgfours: openwin -dev /dev/cgfour0 -dev /dev/bwtwo1 The server ran on both the color and the overlay plane, switching between them at the edge, much as the MIT server does. But, when I installed SunOS 4.1.1, I get: WIN ioctl number 80706728: Device busy Couldn't get base SunWindow giving up. /usr/openwin/bin/xinit: Connection refused (errno 61): unable to connect to \ X server The MIT server (as compiled under 4.0.3) still does the right thing. Any ideas? I've got users who want to run X and Sunview on the same fb with adjacentscreens, but that also stopped working in 4.1.1. Any ideas on what to blame and how to fix it? Sun has been less than helpful about it. -- -- datri@convex.com

I posted recently about problems with cgfours under 4.1.1: > openwin -dev /dev/cgfour0 -dev /dev/bwtwo1 > WIN ioctl number 80706728: Device busy > Couldn't get base SunWindow .... Well, danw@tbird9.prime.com, a Gentleman and a Scholar, pointed out the problem to me. Those of us who configure SunOS kernels for fun and profit are used to seeing strange lines in kernel conf files, like: dtop4 kb3 ms3 for 3 keyboards, 3 mice, 4 "desktops", etc., and are equally used to trimming them down to 1 -- who's got 3 mice? Well, somehow or another, trimming dtop under 4.1.1 results in the above. So, simply regenning a kernel with dtop4 in it did the trick, and now all of my users who were ready to lynch me after the 4.1.1 ugrade now think I'm the greatest thing since flip chips. Thanks to all who responded. -- -- datri@convex.com
