I received responses to my questions on building xgdb, along with requests for posting a summary of responses: xgdb is based on X11R3. If you want an X11R4 version, you should get the sources for xxgdb from uunet.uu.net, in the comp.sources.x directory (may be present in the most recent volume). It is known to work pretty well (dob@inel.gov). If you want to build the X11R3 version, xgdb, you should include -lXext before -lX11 as your libraries to the linker. I haven't tried any of the fixes yet. However, I would like to share some information with you all: I saw the release message for "ups" debugger by Mark Russell (University of Kent) this weekend (Subject: Free X11 and Sunview based C debugger available). I retrieved the sources and built the X11 version. The building process is a piece of cake, and the DEBUGGER WORKS LIKE A CHARM... "ups" has quite a few excellent features. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a good C-based debugger for their Suns! You can ftp "ups" from export.lcs.mit.edu (18.30.0.238). The distribution is in a compressed tar file called contrib/ups-2.28.tar.Z There is a plain text copy of the top level README file in contrib/ups-2.28.README. Happy debugging!
