[comp.windows.x] Help with Windows 3.0 and XVision

tankus@hsi86.hsi.com (Ed Tankus) (04/25/91)

Here is this morning's email from a user:

>The scenario that causes the problem is as follows:

>You get into an xterm and then select the program manager. From there you
>go into a DOS prompt. It will not work then. We also tried iconifying the
>xvision window and then going to the DOS prompt from there. It appears to
>work but if you wait a minute or so, the screen flickers and it's back to 0.

>It seems to have something to do with other applications running such as my
>clock and mailbox. When one of them writes to the root window that is when
>things go bad in the DOS one.

I/We have tried changing background/foreground colors in both Windows
3.0 and XVision 3.2 with correcting the problem. I/We also reinstalled
the video device driver in case that was corrupted. It worked but now
it appears the problem is back. Any clues?

Here is our basic configuration.

	UNISYS PW2 800, 386/33 with 4meg memory, 320meg SCSI HD
UNISYS (Video 7/Headland) SuperVGA with 512K RAM
	WD 8003W EtherCard Plus 10T (8 bit)
	FTP PC/TCP V2.03
	DOS 4.01
	Windows 3.0
	XVision 3.2

Thanks in advance. Please respond via email or voice: (203) 949-0303
until 2pm EDT. Ask to have me paged.
