I am trying to compile a list of UIMS that according to [Hix90] would be in the fourth generation or beyond category. [Hix90] defines fourth generation UIMS as being mostly in the research stage and exhibiting improved usability through "development of direct-manipulation interfaces for the UIMSs themselves." [Hix90] lists the following as examples of fourth generation UIMS: Next Interface Builder Serpent TeleUse TAE Plus UIMX User Interface Development Environment (re. J.D. Foley) How would other interface projects like Chiron fit into this schema? Are there any other examples? Does anyone have experience with TAE Plus? [Hix90] Deborah Hix, Generations of User-Interface Management Systems, IEEE Software, Sept. 1990 Thanks in advance, Gail.
