I am running X11R4 with vtwm on a DECstation 5000/200 CX under Ultrix 4.0. I have a small amount of trouble with the mouse pointer disappearing when it moves from one window to the next, or between regions inside a window. It doesn't happen reproducibly. Sometimes the pointer doesn't wholly disappear, but random pieces of it are missing (I've only seen this happen to the vertical I-bar). Certain applications are much more prone to this problem than others. It happens when I move into an xterm window on occasion, it happens more rarely when I move between the title bar and the main portion of the dxclock window, and it NEVER happens when I move into an emacs window. The recently-announced ups debugger has this problem in spades. Moving around inside its window WILL make the pointer disappear or fragment in very short order. (In fact, that's what prompts this posting. ups is SO BLASTED GOOD that I already can't live without it, even though I've only used it for ten minutes. It really should go into the FAQ posting under the "X-based debugger" question. Try it; you won't be sorry.) Usually, but not always, moving into another window will bring the pointer back. Several window switches will eventually restore the pointer. Does anybody have any suggestions as to what the problem may be? I will summarize all non-posted information. AdTHANKSvance. Terry R.
