I wonder how to get xterm and cmdtool overlap each other. It seems to me that cmdtool is always over the xterm and can't get xterm to the front of cmdtool. Any ideas on this? Thanks... Hao -- Internet:haozhou@acsu.buffalo.edu BITNET:haozhou%acsu.buffalo.edu@UBVM.BITNET UUCP: rutgers!ub!haozhou

Any ideas on this? I think it's impossible. As I recall, when you mix SunView and X applications in OW, all SunView windows are visually in front of all X windows. I believe it is part of the standard distribution. At least I don't remember doing anything special to install these applications when I installed OpenWindows on our Suns. Actually, I remember using the sunview version of dbxtool for quite a while before I finally needed to debug an application that required quite a bit of the screen, so the xview version was a must. The point is that I didn't know it was there, and was about to grab xdbx off the net. Maybe you already have the xview version, too.... I assume, because it's the only way your statements seem at all likely, that (a) you're using Suns, (b) you're using the OpenWindows server, and (c) you're using the suntools cmdtool instead of the XView cmdtool. One of the problems with the hacks Sun has done to allow you to get X and suntools windows on the same screen is that all the suntools windows are always in front of all the X windows. This may be a bit of a pain, but it's a lot better than having to switch window systems entirely, and it would, I understand, be a major pain to fix. (Think of it as a good reason to get away from running suntools programs! If you just like cmdtool, there is a cmdtool version that speaks X.) der Mouse old: mcgill-vision!mouse new: mouse@larry.mcrcim.mcgill.edu
