[comp.windows.x] Excel and X11?

harald@itk.unit.no (Harald Backer) (05/10/91)

As the subject says, is Excel available for X11R4?

Full X11 support; with mouse, X cut-and-paste and so on?

What Excel version, 3.0?

If not available, when will this happen?

My platforms: Sun3 & 4 (Sparc), Solbourne and HP 9000/7x0 (the new
RISC machine).

Excel isn't available and when Microsoft was here recently the
salesperson claimed they had no plans of going to UNIX. On the
other hand, Informix Wingz is available. I'll know better how
good it is pretty soon but not yet.

WingZ works well, but (on the Sparc at least) expects the OpenWindows
fonts, so either you run OpenWin (not necessarily olwm) or spend a lot
of time trying to port fonts.

Ah, yes, but the Open Look fonts are available in bdf format
(contrib/OLIT2.tar.Z I believe) on export.lcs.mit.edu, and I believe
also in the xview distribution. Wingz and Wordperfect work under
the MIT R4 server once the fonts are made available.
