[comp.windows.x] moving CLX from on top of X protocol to on top of Xlib

joshua@shadow.UUCP (Joshua Glasser) (05/18/91)

I am currently assessing what it is going to take to reimplement CLX such
that instead of going to the X protocol, it instead goes to Xlib (assuming
lisp to Xlib bindings). Also, I want all the caching that gets done in CLX
to be moved down into Xlib, as well.

The reason is that I need interoperablilty between CLX, Xlib, and Motif, (I
am currently writing lisp bindings directly to OSF/Motif (1.1)) and I can't
have various peices with their own special caches and datatypes, so I am
trying to shove all the responsibility for caching, etc, down into Xlib.

I am curious, does anyone out there knew of this having already been done?
In whole or in part? I'd like to talk with whoever may have worked this
issue already.

LaMott? Chris? Robert?
