I have managed to port and compile several simple X applications onto VMS and make them run under DECwindows -- taking care of the root is the main thing I have had to do. I have. however failed with many other programs. The problem is not even DECwindows, but simply the C environment. First I definately cannot make the makefiles work with my make program. Second, I have much more trouble with header files. I often find I do not have the header files needed. I try copying some from unix hosts, and find they call other header files, and I play a game of copying and failing to compile. When this happens I cannot make the program compile, never mind make it run under DECwindows. Do others have this problem? Is there a solution other than "Get a unix box"? Is there also a patch like utility that works under VMS for unix like c patches? So much for portability and compatibility. Thanks, jim Dryfoos :-?
