My apologies if you have already seen this, but from this end it didn't appear on the newsgroup. -- Graham ====================================================================== CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS ESPRIT II Project 2463 - ARGOSI Distributed Window Systems - Theory and Practice Are Distributed Window Systems Appropriate for Distributed Graphics Applications Abingdon, UK, 9th-11th December 1991 ====================================================================== Aims and Scope: The ESPRIT II Project ARGOSI - Applications Related Graphics and OSI Standards Integration - organized a Workshop in Breuberg, Germany, in October 1990, which highlighted a number of areas for further work and discussion within the context of the integration of graphics and networking standards. One area not tackled fully at that Workshop, was the relationship between distributed window systems and distributed graphics applications. A joint SIGGRAPH/SIGCOMM Workshop on Graphics and Networking in Boulder in January 1991 observed that the X window system was considered to be inadequate for high-end research in visualization systems. The theme of this present Workshop is the appropriateness and role of distributed window systems for distributed graphics applications. Contributions are sought which explore these issues. Areas of interest include: * Experience with X and other window systems for distributed graphics applications * Reference models for distributed graphics applications and windowing * Impact of high bandwidth communications on requirements for high performance distributed graphics applications The Workshop language will be English. Full Papers: Participation will be limited to encourage discussion. Selection will take place on the basis of full papers (up to 15 pages) reviewed by the Programme Committee. Please submit 4 copies to the address below. Papers and conclusions will appear in the workshop proceedings. Invitations to submit revised versions for a book (EurographicSeminars series published by Springer-Verlag) will depend on the quality of the contributions. Participation without submitting a paper may be possible in a few cases, if a position paper is submitted with your views on current issues in distributed window systems. Schedule: NOW! Return reply form 1st October 1991 Deadline for full papers/position papers 31st October 1991 Notification of participation/acceptance of paper 9th-11th December 1991 WORKSHOP Venue and Fee: The workshop will be held at the Cosener's House, Abingdon, UK. The fee (excluding accommodation and dinners) will be around 150 ECUs. Organization: Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, UK are handling local arrangements. The ARGOSI Consortium consists of the following organizations: Thomson CSF (France), INRIA (FRANCE), GMD FOKUS (Germany), FhG-AGD (Germany), Hitec (Greece), Tecsiel (Italy), COSI (Italy), GESI (Italy), Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (U.K.), University of East Anglia (U.K.), Laser-Scan Ltd (U.K.). The Workshop also has the support of the EUROGRAPHICS Association. Co-Chairmen: D.B. Arnold (UEA Norwich), R.A. Day (Joint Network Team). Programme Committee: J.J. Bardyn, A. Ducrot, P. Egloff, R. Fairbairns, J.R. Gallop, M. Loupis, L. Moltedo, S. Noll, E. Pelucchi, M. Re, G.J. Reynolds, D.C. Sutcliffe.
