Hi, Is there a way to establish direct communication over the network. For example can I use something like xtalk to communicate with someone in Canada? thanks, M.

If you are both on the network and you have access to your friend's display, you can. However, a more common method is as follows: (1) Use the appropriate version of 'talk' or 'phone' to connect to your friend's machine. (2) Get your friend to xhost your machine so that you can xtalk. Of course, if you feel like chatting with people all over the place, you might want to use irc instead. (Disclaimer - I don't have a direct net link right now.) ----- John B.
