There's been a lot of rumbling from time to time about crosspostings --
when and when not to crosspost, which groups are being utilized only for
crossposting, etc. I decided to take statistics on where articles were
being crossposted to in the top 25 newsgroups as of the last posting
from seismo. They are offered basically without comment -- I'll let
those of you who like to chew on data draw your own conclusions.
The format lists each individual group that a crossposting in the
surveyed group was found for, and how many crosspostings there were for
that group. Also included are the total number of articles found
crossposted in that group, and how many articles were surveyed. The
results may not be 100% accurate, due to missing articles and perhaps a
few that I missed. If anyone is interested in seeing further results
send me mail and I'll run the survey again. I'll probably rewrite the
program that figures all this stuff out (it had a few bugs which made me
have to go back into each group and verify the data by hand) and maybe
post it to the net if there is interest.
