[comp.windows.x] Database faster than Arglists?

doyle@doyled.b23b.ingr (Doyle C. Davidson) (05/31/91)

While going through "X Window System Toolkit" by Asente & Swick,
on page 142, it states:
"Finally, most implementations of the Intrinsics fetch resources
from the database more efficiently that from argument lists."

Can anyone explain this to me?

Does it mean faster or just more efficiently in terms of memory
usage and/or quarkization? Database resources must still go
through the resource string to ??? converter.

If it's faster, then that would imply that unless I __MUST__ have
a resource set to a particular value, I am better off putting them
the my application defaults file. Although I imagine the difference
is negligible in the overall scope of things.
