[comp.windows.x] xmail and other X front ends for mail

kmeek@cti.com (Kevin Meek) (06/06/91)

We are looking for an X11 application to read and send mail.

I downloaded a copy of xmail by Michael Wangitz.

I got it compiled on our AT&T 3B2/600G running sysV 3.2 but
it crashes the whole system when I try and run it. I think
the problem is it only works with bsd mail program.
Which obviously is different from System V mail I have.

Any Ideas where I can get a PD copy of a bsd mail workalike.

If not Are there any other good X mail front ends that will work
with System V??

PS. I tried getting xmh to work but had problems getting mh
to compile and gave up. If xmh is really great let me know and
I'll try again.

Thanks

Kevin Meek

Release 1.3 of xmail SHOULD support the AT&T 3B2, as attempts have been
made to provide for the SysV form of connections. xmail 1.3 is in the
queue of sources for the comp.sources.x newsgroup, which will also make
it available from the uunet archives. Dan Heller (the moderator of that
newsgroup) has promised me that I am 'next' in the queue. However, he
is currently presenting a tutorial lecture at Xhibition91 in San Jose, so
I doubt if we will see the posting before the end of this week. Since it
is already Thursday, that shouldn't be too much longer a wait.
