I have placed the latest versions of my, color mixing tool "xcoloredit" (version 1.2) and X selection/cutbuffer manipulation tool "xselection" (patchlevel 3), on export.lcs.mit.edu for anonymous ftp... Machine = export.lcs.mit.edu [18.30.0.238] /contrib/xcoloredit.tar.Z /contrib/xselection.tar.Z CHANGES: xcoloredit now displays some example text which can be set to different colours. This allows you to see how foreground and background colours interact. You can also specify an output format for the colour representation, by default this is "#rrggbb" in hex. xselection now has a "-clear" option which will clear an X selection or cutbuffer without requiring a process to hang around holding a blank selection. It also has no hard limit on the size of a selection or cutbuffer (previously it was limited to 40k) that can be set or retrieved. USES: I use xcoloredit infrequently for setting custom colours on applications/buttons. It also gets used for designing suitable default colours for new applications. I use xselection a lot! No more problems with xterm beeping at you when you've pasted too much into vi. With a single keystroke I can replace a line in vi with the current selection. As mentioned in the XFAQ, xselection is also useful for sending cut text to a printer, e.g., xselection PRIMARY | lpr We also use xselection to clear the cutbuffers between XDM login sessions, this stops users pasting other user's text.
