[net.news] And now the good side of the net...

chrisa@tekig5.UUCP (05/28/86)

In all the recent arguing over reorginization of the net, etc. It seemed
that there was never a lack of people who could find fault with the net.
So, now it's about time we hear from the other side of the net. Namely,
what is GOOD about the way the net is set up now?

This is an important question to consider before trying to 'fix' the net by
making some possibly drastic changes. Changes that could, while reducing the
volume, make the network so uninteresting that most will not be interested
in participating? After all, isn't one of the great benefits of the net the
very fact that SO MANY PEOPLE use it? Where else can you have access to such
a wide range of experience and opinion on almost any subject?

Those who abuse (intentionally or not) the use of the net can be a pain, but
I don't think they will be the death of it. I think the net will only die
when those who are more responsible are willing to let the 'noise' bother
them enough to go an commit suicide ("Oh look, someone is overposting in
this otherwise good newsgroup, lets kill the newsgroup!").

Seems like such a waste to me.
