[comp.windows.x] child windows wanting to know...

pascale@trwacs.UUCP (Rita Pascale) (06/17/91)

Thank you for the responses. One problem I forgot to
mention in my original question, I am working within
the server, so most of the protocol requests do not
help me.

The original question was:
 Having a child/subwindow and knowing the top-most
ancestor window id (under the root window but not
including the root), how can I find the top-most
 window's width and height?

From within the server, QueryTree and GetGeometry
do not help.

The information available:
        child's drawable
        top most ancestor's window id

I do not have the child or ancestor window structures
or any screen structure.

I do have the master WindowTable and the master ScreenInfo
that I could use, but I am reluctant to use these because
of the potentially vast size.

Thanks for any more suggestions!
