Well, it's a given that the net->talk transition is going to take place. I'm not arguing about it, I'm just asking - which backbone sites, if any, will continue to carry "talk" groups? -- - Joe Buck {ihnp4!pesnta,oliveb,csi}!epimass!jbuck Entropic Processing, Inc., Cupertino, California Better living through entropy!

The current plans for ihnp4 include carrying all of the newsgroups.

As I announced several months ago, cuae2 does not carry several newsgroups. Most of those groups are currently planned to be moved to talk. Some of them aren't. When the "talk" split happens, we will continue to not carry those groups that are moved to talk. We will begin passing those groups that do not move to talk. This means that we will not be cutting any new groups (except talk.suicide, they just talk about it) and will actually be adding some groups that we don't carry now. Before someone decides to flame me, let me repeat what I said in my posting of several months ago. Before cutting the groups I did, I asked the readers on my machine and the administrators of the machines I feed. As we begin to feed a new machine, I tell the admin what groups I don't pass. I have never had a complaint from the people affected by the action. My site will carry any newsgroup that is desired by the users at my site. We have no plans to cut any groups except the "talk" groups (which are cut already). We will work to help those sites downstream from us who want the talk groups to get into contact with the nearest "jawbone" site to get a feed for those groups. -- Ron Heiby {NAC|ihnp4}!cuae2!heiby Moderator: mod.newprod & mod.os.unix AT&T-IS, /app/eng, Lisle, IL (312) 810-6109 "'Cause there's lots of things in this world that need to BE turned around."
