Is it really appropriate to post an ad for a used car on a net group that will be sent out nationwide or even worldwide? Somehow I can't see anyone in, say, California or France being too interested in buying a used car in New Jersey. -- Thomas Newton

It's interesting that New Jersey is the canonical state; in fact, it seems to me that these announcements all seem to come from AT&T. There was a very curious exchange a while back when someone asked about creating a "ma" distribution for cod-staters. Someone at an AT&T site objected because they use ma.* groups internally as a distribution. All this leads me to the tentative conclusion that AT&T sites aren't using distributions as the rest of the net knows them at all. Would someone in the know care to try to resolve this confusion? C.
