[comp.windows.x] OpenLook Toolkit under plain X.

walmsley@qucis.queensu.ca (Chris Walmsley) (06/28/91)

I am trying to use the OpenLook toolkit for an application that isn't
running under OpenWindows. To be more specific, I'm trying to get any
of the OpenLook examples (supplied by Sun) to run under X (not Open
Windows), using the olwm window manager (if that makes a difference).

Whenever I run a program that uses the OL toolkit I get the error
message:
>
>OPEN LOOK Toolkit Error in application "unit_test1": Could not find default
>OPEN LOOK button font:
> Resolution: d Point Size: 12
>

I've had one of our system people install all of the OpenLook fonts
in a public readable directory (*.bdf files). And I've issued an xset
command (xset fp+ /usr/lib/X11/fonts/ol/) to indicate where these fonts
reside. All with no luck.

From what I understand, the OL toolkit should be just like any other X
toolkit. And that including the correct headers and linking in the
correct libraries should be all that is necessary to get an
application to use the OL widgets, etc.

My questions are:

1) It it actually possible to use the OpenLook Toolkit outside of the
OpenWindows system (the programs work fine when running under
    Openwin!).

2) If the answer to the above question is yes, then how?

Thanks
Chris
