I recently replied to a query about the Roell 386/vga Server by pooping all over Interactive Systems Corporation (ISC) because their X11R4 and Motif 1.1 are terribly late. For those who remember that and care, read on. Others, go do some work. :-) BTW - ISC's products matter to me because my company has about $40,000 worth of ISC software running on a pile of machines, and we need to be CURRENT (up-to-date UNIX, X and Motif)! I posted these complaints (among others)... > I don't know about the Roell Server for X.V11R4 386 [extended] vga, but I > WILL tell you that ISC is currently claiming that they'll have X11R4 > (and Motif 1.1) ready in DECEMBER! I wouldn't put much faith in that, > however, since that is what they told me a year ago, too. That is, that > R4 would be out LAST December! and... > It is really a shame that they can't keep even remotely up to date (really - > they get to R4 three months after the rest of the world gets to R5?). I had also called some VP-level people to holler, but had not been able to reach them. Well, by coincidence, no sooner had the posting oozed out of my little 386 and onto the net (but before anyone could possibly have read it - we're talking minutes here), a VP called me, apologized, admitted that they had been remiss and that they indeed were incredibly late, and is now trying to help me out, because a project that I am involved in really needs Motif 1.1. The next day another ISC fellow (who is working on X11R4) emailed me, basically apologizing, and also concerned that I may have been given dates that were NEVER real. He wanted to correct that problem for the future. Generally, he, too seemed honestly concerned about my problem, and about rectifying it. Nice guy, too. The point is, Yes, they are unacceptably late, and Yes, they screwed up big time, but they are now at least trying to help, and to serve a fairly big customer. There's hope. I just wanted to post this to be fair - half the story ain't the whole story! One other thing - their software is REAL solid! Colin (My blood pressure is returning to normal) Grant

Colin, Great to hear ISC is addressing your problems. ISC puts out a very solid Unix product. This, I must say, is the reason I was so unhappy with their X/Motif Releases. Kind of disappointing. But, as they say, acknowledging a problem is the first step in solving it. And, as we have approx. $100-200k effort invested in their Unix products I can't wait until they rectify their X problems. Also, I hope they don't charge me an arm and a leg to get the fixes. ;-) Will ******* Will Raymond - Northern Telecom NTP in RTP | | ~ ~ | | . O o .
