[comp.os.minix] MINIX on Clones

apratt@atari.UUCP (01/16/87)

Since Atari has announced its IBM PC Compatible, I am interested in
getting Minix (a whole development system, not just the $80 OS kernel)
for it. Can somebody (including the Horse's Mouth) tell me what is
required of a compatible, that it may run Minix with little or no
modification? Does Unipress sell the whole shootin' match (compiler,
etc.), or just the $80 book & software?

Do I ask a lot of questions for somebody from New Jersey? :-)

Unipress sells neither the book nor the software. You get that from
Prentice-Hall. Unipress sells the compiler sources. Right now if
you have a PC, your atari and some decent C compiler for the ATARI
you can start porting Minix right away.

Compilers for MINIX from Unipress prices are in FLUX. Essentially,
they just negotiated with Andy Tanenbaum the price for the IBM-PC
compiler sources ($100) and nothing else yet is set.

Of course, you can always order the entire Amsterdam Compiler Kit
in it's full glory for the current prices (which are a little steep
for individuals right now).
