Has anyone discussed the possibility of creating a non-profit Usenet corporation? I think that this would solve a lot of the current problems that backbone sites are having in reducing and justifying their costs. Creating a non-profit corporation to administer Usenet and run the feeds for the backbone sites would allow componies to take tax decuctions for their time, materials, and phone charges. As an employee of a company that donates a lot of stuff to universites and charities, I would guess that my employer would probably be willing to donate something if there was a way to get a tax deduction for it. --- Arthur shone his flashlight on Prak's face. There's not nearly as much of it as people imagine." Dave Cornutt, Gould Computer Systems, Ft. Creating a non-profit (or not for profit) organization might add to the overhead of USENET, and the cost are already deductable business expenses now. -- -bill davidsen ihnp4!seismo!rochester!steinmetz!--\ \ unirot ------------->---> crdos1!davidsen chinet ------/ sixhub ---------------------/ (davidsen@ge-crd.ARPA) "Stupidity, like virtue, is its own reward"
