I think that what I propose is legal but... I am currently in an Operating Systems class at the Indianapolis extension of Purdue University. The Prof, Dr. Larry Medsker, is extremely excited about the educational possibilities of minix. He has ordered (backordered) the source floppies of the ibm pc version of minix directly from Prentice Hall. The problem is he would like to get his hands on source and executables immediately so that we (the classmembers of this semester) can benefit. He would like to see various class groups implement various algorithms for disk scheduling, memory allocation, process scheduling, etc on a real live operating system. I think that the results from this could benefit alot of minix users and, indirectly, Dr. Tanenbaum & PH. Since Dr. Medsker has officially ordered the source from PH would it be legal for him to get a copy of the distribution disk from someone who already has it? (I know at least 100 people have there hands on a copy, the salesperson at Computer Literacy Book Store said they sold out of that many in a day or so.) He would be willing to pay for the disk and any handling charges but does not want to violate any copyrights etc. If anyone has a copy and is sure that because Dr Medsker (Purdue) has already sent there check in that there would not be a problem and wants to help us out please mail me at ...ihnp4!inuxc!matt and I will relay to Dr. Medsker. Thanks for any help!
