What for all the concern about minix security (re: the shar discussion) ?? The current version of minix doesn't have the ability to boot off a hard disk, and since / is a ramdisk, having your password file, etc munched is unimportant. In addition to this minor detail, anyone who unshars files (or makes without trying make -n first), or who installs PD software as root, is really not being very bright and will hopefully learn from his/her mistakes. Even making a scratch directory and a totally no-priv uid helps a lot... I understand this will become a real issue when MINIX is ported to different architecture. In that case, I assume the standard rules of UNIX common sense in sytems management apply. On the other hand, someone who does not take the time and effort to notice what he's doing, or learn what he's doing, should not be logging in as root. --mjr;
