Has anyone managed to get minix up and running on a machine with a V20 in it? I'm trying to get it up on a standard IBM(tm) XT with a 10M IBM harddisk/controller. What's happening is that whenever I try to do something with the harddisk, the driver often gets a spurious and unexpected interrupt and then the system flips out. The message I got was something like "winchester: received message from -1". I remember reading something somewhere about simultaneous keyboard and harddisk I/O on an XT in minix sometimes causes problems. I was wondering if the problem would be more pronounced on a machine with a V20 since it is a bit faster. I haven't much experience with disk I/O on a PC (although I'm fairly familier with the inner workings of the rest of the machine) so this is going to be new territory for me. Does anyone have any leads on this? It's difficult for me to track it down since all I've got is one floppy drive. If I can find an 8088 I'll try swapping out the V20, but I don't consider that to be a permanent solution (i.e., I want all the speed I can get). Other bits of semi-useful information: the harddisk has two 5M partitions, one for DOS and one (hopefully) for Minix. I'm using the second for minix. Memory is 640K. robert -- Robert Viduya robert@pyr.ocs.gatech.edu Office of Computing Services robert%gitpyr%gatech.csnet@relay.cs.net Georgia Institute of Technology (404) 894-4660 Atlanta, Georgia 30332
