gnu@l5.uucp (John Gilmore) (10/24/85)
Like many other netnews administrators who were around the last time we started having "rmgroup wars", I have set the option in my news software (MANUALLY) that will just send me mail when someone tries to rmgroup. Therefore net.internat is alive and well at L5, and I hope at many other sites. Given the arbitrary nature of the rmgroup (Gene seems to be saying that there isn't sufficient volume but apparently he doesn't read the group, or hasn't read all the flames in net.news.group that appeared because of his action) I think we should just ignore it. Act as if a freshman at Georgia Tech had tried to zap net.unix-wizards -- send flames to freshman and otherwise ignore. Keep posting messages to the group as usual, folks, and if you forgot to #define MANUALLY, edit your defs.h file and recompile netnews. PS: I could have posted a "newgroup net.internat" but I'm not interested in escalating the bullshit; rather, in stopping it.
