Many people have been asking me which hard disk controller does the MINIX driver use on the AT. To find out, I had the two AT machines we have here opened up and the hard disk controller cards removed. The results are: 1. The IBM PC-AT (old 6 MHz machine) has no brand name or model number on the card. It does have the following 3 chips though: WD1010P1-05 WD1014CL-01 WD1015PL-03 I am told that the "P" in the first one means the chip is in a plastic case. Other than the educated guess that the chips are made by Western Digital, I can't provide any more information. Still this may be of some use to people since the driver will presumably work with any controller based on these chips. 2. The Zenith Z-248 has a board made by Data Technology Corporation. The board is labeled DTC 5290CZ. It has a variety of DTC (presumably custom) chips on it. If we have any experts in reading chip entrails out there, please speak up. Andy Tanenbaum (ast@cs.vu.nl)
