[comp.os.minix] "The Book" vs "The Floppies"

mpl@sfsup.UUCP (05/01/87)

I *finally* received MINIX (I ordered it at UniForum), and much to my surprise
I got "The Floppies" but NOT "The Book". Not only that, but I was charged
for BOTH! Well, I called P-H, who said, yes it was a mistake, and no they
couldn't just ship me a book, I had to send back the floppies and wait for
a complete set to arrive all together. So, I'm left with floppies with *no*
documentation. I figured out how to boot the things, and how to use mined,
etc. My question is this: I have an AT&T PC (so the hard disk doesn't work
without a fix, which I got from this newsgroup). How can I recompile the
system using only one floppy drive? I seem to run out of space no matter
what I do. Does anybody:

	1. have any hints on building MINIX in a tiny space
	2. know where I can get "The Book" (P-H promised 2 weeks 3 weeks
ago, and if I wait for them I much fear growing old - every
book store in northern NJ seems to be out of it as well)
	3. have an archive of fixes (hopefully with an index)

Thanks in advance,
Mike Lindner
