[comp.os.minix] How much redistribution is OK?

tim@ism780c.UUCP (Tim Smith) (05/20/87)

The sources in the book say that it is OK for private individuals to
give copies of Minix to other private individuals, and that commercial
redistribution requires permission from Prentice-Hall.

If one person buys the floppies, and he gives copies to N people,
who each pay him 80/(N+1) dollars, is this considered commercial
redistribution? In other words, if I and a few other people want
to split the cost of Minix, is this OK? Does it depend on N?

If they pay you, it's commercial. This is a very nice policy
on the part of P-H, let's not abuse it.
