[net.news] Purdue sites discover Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle

rsk@j.cc.purdue.edu (Whitewater Wombat) (08/25/86)

As some of you already have found out, Purdue's campus in West Lafayette,
Indiana, has converted to domains. This is causing a considerable amount
of havoc, some expected, and some quite novel and annoying. It seems the
current state of affairs is that our main connection with Usenet, pur-ee
(aka ee.ecn.purdue.edu) is not forwarding mail to any of the pucc-? hosts,
such as pucc-j (aka j.cc.purdue.edu). It may not be forwarding mail to
the CS department hosts (e.g. merlin.cs.purdue.edu); those hosts are
readily identifiable by names from the Arthurian legends. We all seem
to be able to send mail out (on Usenet and the Arpanet and so on)
without too much trouble.

We seem to be sending and receiving news correctly on most hosts; and
distributions seem to be correct, after some initial craziness. However,
the return address on our outgoing articles (such as this one) are likely
to be brazen lies.   FYI, here are some of the old and new host names;
those omitted are similar.

pur-ee	ee.ecn.purdue.edu
ecn-aa	aa.ecn.purdue.edu
ecn-ab	ab.ecn.purdue.edu	These are Engineering Computer Network hosts.
ecn-ca	ca.ecn.purdue.edu
	(etc.)
pucc-h	h.cc.purdue.edu
pucc-i	i.cc.purdue.edu These are Computing Center hosts.
	(etc.)
purdue	arthur.cs.purdue.edu
cs-mordred mordred.cs.purdue.edu	These are Computer Sciences hosts.
cs-merlin merlin.cs.purdue.edu
	(etc.)
