I am a beginner of minix. No experience have I about minix. I just got a minix 1.1 and try to use it. It seems to run well when I run it with only one floppy drive. Then I tried to mkfs on the harddisk, I got error message "Winchester wouldn't reset, drive busy," and the hard disk driver made aweful noise. The machine and harddisk I use is IMS 286 running Phoenix BIOS Western Digital diskette/fixed disk controller Miniscribe 43MB (Model 6053). I partitioned the hard disk into two partitions; I used mkfs /dev/hd2 2000 to make a file system on 2nd partition, then I got the error message. I doubt it is caused by the incompatibility of disk drive. Does any one tell me the reason why it failed and how to fixe it; to get a newer release? Or to modify the source code? Thanks in advance.
