[comp.os.minix] MINIX on a Sperry IT

jr@uplherc.UUCP (J.R. Westmoreland) (09/22/87)

I have a Sperry-IT 8mz with a 42mb Miniscribe hard disk.
I'm trying to get MINIX to run on the hard disk.
I have followed the information in the README file.
By the way, this is a v1.1 disk set.
I have DOS on the first partition and I am trying to put MINIX on the 2nd
partition. P1 is 25mb and P2 is 17mb.
I have rebuilt MINIX to include the at_wini.c driver.

After booting MINIX I do the following:
mkfs /dev/hd2 1699
/etc/mount /dev/hd2 /user
(all is well up to this point.)
cd /user
(make some directories.)
(this seems to work as well.)
cp /usr/bin/* .
(the files appear to start copying.)
(after a short time.)

The hard disk goes in to mode where it conginually seeks back and forward and the system prints
a message about the hard disk being busy. Also, there is a message
about the disk having problems reseting. After that things go from bad to worse.
The only way to stop the disk from having the problem after that is to HARD reset the machine.

Does any one have a solution? Does Minix work on a Sperry-IT like I have?
