As one who would be involved with MINIX as a system programming and operating system teaching vehicle, I'm interested in communicating (meeting?) others in similar position, particularly in Ireland/Britain. Things that come to mind are: a) How established is MINIX in teaching at college/uni. level? b) Though not necessary, it would be nice if students were at least familiar with UNIX at a 'user' level. Is this a usual experience? c) For hands-on experience, what are typical PC/student ratios, or is the mainframe method (suggested in Andy's book) more prevalent? d) What are difficulties that students may have? Possibly the cost of the book and floppies might be one such problem? Awkward hardware or configurations (eg. one floppy systems) might be another? If you can help out with any of this, I'd appreciate that you include snail mail address as well, since I'm not sure how close I'll be to the network when there. Thanks in advance.
