We'll be joing CSNet via X25Net Real Soon Now, at 9600 baud into GTE Telenet. Has anyone tried a full Usenet feed over CSNet? I'm thinking specifically of X25Net, not PhoneNet (which is slow, and would swamp the relay). Anyone have any idea what the CSNet people would think of this (ab)usage? If I understand how X25Net works, once the connection is established no CSNet resources would be involved other than the PDN itself. And I'm sure Telenet won't mind the traffic. :-) Note, out of 11 sites currently on X25Net, three are already Usenet Backbone sites (hplabs, decwrl, and bellcore). The obvious transport mechanism would be NNTP, unless someone really wants to run UUCP. (It can be done! :-) ) <csg>

I believe that hplabs' agreement does, too. By the way, we use a scheme built around rcp and special-purpose shells for copying news over IP/TCP links; we find it a pleasant and efficient alternative to NNTP (not that NNTP isn't pleasant and efficient).
